Standard Road Waste Transfer Station Pre-application Consultation
Flintshire County Council is committed to managing kerbside collected householder waste in the most sustainable way possible, recycling and recovering value from as much of the waste stream, thus reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill.
Standard Road Waste Transfer Station (WTS), located on the Spencer Industrial Estate Buckley, performs an important role in managing kerbside collected waste. The WTS accepts dry recyclable material and bagged food waste, where it is sorted and bulked up to be taken for processing elsewhere.
The existing WTS has operated since 2005, and is now in need of some improvements and modernisation in order to continue to operate efficiently and meet the future waste management requirements of the County.
The Council intends to submit a planning application in early 2021 for the redevelopment of the Standard Road WTS. The proposal will involve the demolition of the existing WTS and replacement with a larger, modern WTS building and associated development including an education facility / visitor centre. The Council also propose to deliver an electric vehicle charging station at this location, this will be used by Flintshire County Council’s current and future fleet of electric vehicles.
To ensure the collection vehicles can access the site safely and efficiently, whilst maintaining access to the Spencer Industrial Estate for other users, a new road alignment is proposed at Standard Road and Globe Way.
In advance of submitting the planning application, Flintshire County Council is seeking the views of residents and interest parties on the proposals.
The draft planning application documents can be viewed below.
We will be happy to receive any comments until 5pm 14th December 2020.
