Wales Climate Week 2025

This year between 3-7 November, Flintshire County Council is engaging with schools to take learners on a journey to understand what Climate Change means and learn about the impacts and opportunities of everyday life.

The week is split across five themes that relate to Climate Change, and each theme has classroom and home-based activities to take learners on a climate journey to better understanding and action.

Climate Change

Understanding Climate Change is the first step to tackling it, and the materials in this section set a great foundation for understanding what is happening to our planet and what we need to do. With these materials, conduct a greenhouse gas experiment and net zero activity at School, and learn how to take climate action at home through the WWF App.

Energy

How we use energy is fundamental to addressing many of the greenhouse gas emissions humans create. The activities in this section will help understand what energy is, fossil fuels, how energy is created in the UK, and the many actions that can be done in School to reduce energy demand and costs.

Mobility and Transport

Transport is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the UK and also impacts our air quality. In collaboration with Wales Wheel Cycle Trust Cymru, these activities will help learners to discuss the traffic outside of their school, act to address problems, and find evidence of air pollution.

In addition, learners can also find out about the Rights of Way routes around their communities, helping to explore their areas and find ways to get to school.

Waste and Recycling

Waste is wasteful and we need do more to reduce it, re use it, and recycle it into new resources.

The materials in this section will help schools and homes to identify their waste, sort what can and cannot be recycled, and think about the habits we need to be more sustainable and less wasteful.

Additionally, NEWydd have a 3-week programme called ‘Eat More, Waste Less’ where schools weight their food waste, raise awareness to reduce it, and monitor progress.

Biodiversity

The climate emergency cannot be solved without nature, and nature needs us to act on climate change. Learn what biodiversity is, why we need it, and explore your school’s outdoor space to design new ways to help local wildlife.
