Shotton High Street Works

The following update is provided in relation to the ongoing highway improvement works currently being undertaken on site.

We appreciate the continued patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and road users whilst these works are carried out.

Traffic Management Arrangements

As part of the ongoing management of the site, an alternative signal head configuration has now been introduced at the traffic signals. This adjustment is intended to provide increased operational flexibility and enhanced manual control of traffic movements as the scheme progresses through its various phases.

Traffic conditions will continue to be closely monitored in collaboration with our contractor. Given the volume of traffic using this stretch of road, disruption is unfortunately inevitable whilst works are undertaken within the carriageway. Traffic management arrangements are therefore kept under continual review, and further measures are continually being considered to manage traffic flows as effectively as possible.

Where operationally and safely feasible, traffic management arrangements will be reduced or removed during evening periods to help alleviate congestion. However, this will not always be possible due to safety, logistical, or programme requirements.

Current Works – Chester Close Area

Works are currently being undertaken in the Chester Close area. These involve adjustments to kerb alignments to create right-turn pockets and improve traffic flow and junction efficiency.

These works will continue until commencement of the resurfacing phase, which is scheduled to begin week commencing 16 March 2026.

Resurfacing Programme

The first phase of resurfacing works — from the eastern side of Nelson Street to Shotton Lane, including the junction area — will be delivered under night-time convoy working arrangements between 7:00pm and 7:00am in order to minimise disruption during peak daytime traffic periods.

The resurfacing programme will comprise the following activities:

  • Removal of the existing carriageway surface
  • Ironworks adjustments, including the replacement and adjustment of covers and gulleys
  • Full carriageway resurfacing (currently programmed to commence on 24 March for a duration of three nights)
  • Traffic signal works (loop cutting) during the weekend of 27 and 28 March 2026
  • Two subsequent nights of road marking

Advance warning signage will be installed on site ahead of the commencement of night-time convoy working, accompanied by a targeted letter drop to immediately affected properties.

Resurfacing Programme

The dates outlined above reflect the current planned programme. However, works remain subject to change in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as adverse weather conditions or unexpected site constraints.

Further updates will be issued as the scheme progresses.
