Strategic Development Plan for North Wales

The statutory development plan system in Wales comprises three tiers:

• Future Wales: The National Plan 2040
• Strategic Development Plan
• Local Development Plan

A SDP recognises that planning for an individual local planning authority administrative area does not necessarily reflect how people live their lives, how markets operate or how business functions. SDPs offer the ability to ensure that a wider geographical area is considered in a single plan. It adopts a midpoint between the National Plan and LDPs and will provide a strategic context for the preparation of subsequent LDPs.The preparation of a SDP will be taken forward by a Corporate Joint Committee (CJC) comprising of Conwy CBC, Denbighshire CC, Flintshire CC, Gwynedd Council, Isle of Anglesey CC, Wrexham CBC and the Snowdonia National Park Authority.

Further Details to follow.

The Delivery Agreement for the SDP was approved by Welsh Government on 24/02/26. Both the Delivery Agreement and approval letter can be viewed on the CJC website here.

The CJC has commenced an evidence review to inform the formulation of a vision, strategic objectives and a Main Issues and Options report.
