How To Apply

Learn more about the application process and what you can expect from us.

You can apply for more than one trainee position.  Simply complete a separate online application form for each position you are interested in.

The Council recognises that the ability to communicate in Welsh is an important and valuable skill in the workplace and is committed to increasing the numbers of bilingual employees. We welcome applications for any post from candidates who are able to work in both Welsh and English. We will also support new and existing employees who wish to learn Welsh or improve/develop their Welsh language skills.

Apply

If you are ready to apply for any of the placements, you will need to complete the online application form available on the Council’s website.

You can apply for a first and second choice of placement.

You must include a current up-to-date email address in your application form so we can contact you.

First Stage Interview

You will have an initial interview.  This will be either online or in-person.

The interview will allow you to discuss your skills and experience with us.

We will let you know the outcome of stage one and  if you have been  successful we will invite you to take part in the second stage.

Second Stage - Online Test

You may be asked to complete two online assessments: a literacy test and a numeracy test. These two short assessments will help us determine your literacy and numeracy levels.

Following the online test, you will be invited to a second stage interview

Second Stage - Interview

During the second stage interview you will meet employees from the service you have applied to join and will discuss more about the role you have applied for.

You may be given a task to complete that is related to the role and be invited to discuss it.

This will generally be the final stage of the application process before you hear back from us.

If You Are Successful

Congratulations! You will be a Flintshire Trainee (subject to employment checks).

Don’t worry if you don’t hear back from us for a while – there will be lots of applicants to inform and lots of details to process.

You will be asked to provide documents such as proof of identity, proof of address, certificates of qualifications, and references.

You will then be contacted by a supervisor closer to your start date.

Starting Your Apprenticeship

When you start, you will attend an induction session with other Flintshire Trainees. This is a great chance for you to all to meet one another and make friends in the workplace.

You will usually attend college one day a week to gain industry recognised qualifications while gaining valuable experience working for the Council.
