About Our Trainees

As a Flintshire Trainee you learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills, achieving qualifications and earning money, all at the same time.

As part of our on-going commitment to help people develop the skills and knowledge they need to gain employment, we will be recruiting a number of trainees to start in autumn 2023.

Flintshire Trainees will be placed on an Apprenticeship Programme.  As a Flintshire Trainee you learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills, achieving qualifications and earn money, all at the same time.

At Flintshire we recruit our Trainees over the spring and summer, so they are ready to start work and enroll at college in September.  For the Council, it is an excellent way to develop people with the skills and experience required.  For you, it is the opportunity to get hands-on experience and on-the job training, whilst gaining industry recognised qualifications.

Placements can last between one and four years depending on the qualification and level of placement.  Usually Trainees are work based for four days and college based for one day a week, again this is dependent on the structure of the qualification.

Our trainee scheme has received national recognition and in 2016 reached the UK finals of the Learning and Performance Institute's Apprentice of the Year Awards.

The awarding body was particularly impressed with the Council’s:

  • commitment to apprenticeships,
  • success rate – 98% of apprentices going on to gain employment,  and
  • innovative approach to the delivery of the programme.
