Electoral Arrangements for Flintshire


Following the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission Review for Flintshire, Welsh Government have made the following Order, which is now in force. The County of Flintshire (Electoral Arrangements) (No.2) Order 2021.

The following changes will be made:

  • reduce the number of Councillors from 70 to 67
  • reduce the number of wards from 57 to 45
  • Argoed and New Brighton ward – this is a combination of the previous Argoed and New Brighton wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Bagillt ward – this is a combination of the previous Bagillt East and Bagillt West wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Brynford and Halkyn ward – this is a combination of the previous Brynford and Halkyn wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Buckley: Bistre East ward – properties have been moved from the Buckley Pentrobin ward with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Buckley: Pentrobin ward – properties have been moved from the Buckley Mountain ward with no reduction in the number of Councillors. The Buckley: Mountain ward will remain represented by 1 Councillor
  • Connah’s Quay: Central ward  - properties have been moved from the Connah’s Quay Golftyn and Connah’s Quay South wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors.  The Connah’s Quay: Golftyn and Connah’s Quay South wards will remain represented by 2 Councillors respectively
  • Flint: Castle ward – properties have been moved from the Flint Oakenholt ward with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Flint Coleshill and Flint Trelawny ward – properties have been moved from the  Flint Oakenholt ward to Flint Coleshill ward and the wards of Flint Coleshill and Flint Trelawny have been combined. The number of Councillors has been reduced from 4 to 3.  The Flint: Oakenholt ward will remain represented by 1 Councillor
  • Gwernaffield and Gwernymynydd ward  - this is a combination of the previous Gwernaffield and Gwernymynydd wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Hawarden: Aston ward - properties have been moved from the Hawarden ward.  The Hawarden ward will no longer exist. The new ward will be represented by 2 Councillors
  • Hawarden: Mancot ward - properties have been moved from the Hawarden ward.  The Hawarden ward will no longer exist. The new ward will be represented by 2 Councillors
  • Llanasa and Trelawnyd ward – this is a combination of the previous Ffynnongryw, Gronant and Trelawnyd & Gwaenysgor wards. The number of Councillors has been reduced from 3 to 2
  • Mold East ward – properties have been moved from the Mold West ward with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Mold South ward – properties have be moved from the Mold Broncoed ward with no reduction in the number of council lors. The Mold: Broncoed ward will remain represented by 1 Councillo
  • Mold West ward – properties have been moved from the Mold South ward with no reduction in the number of Councillors. 
  • Northop ward – this is a combination of the previous Northop and Northop Hall wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Queensferry and Sealand ward – this is a combination of the previous Queensferry and Sealand wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Saltney Ferry ward – this is a combination of the previous Saltney Mold Junction and Saltney Stonebridge wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors
  • Shotton East and Shotton Higher ward – this is a combination of the previous Shotton East and Shotton Higher wards with no reduction in the number of Councillors

The following recommendations were not accepted by Welsh Government.

  • combine the wards of Caergwrle, Llanfynydd and Treuddyn
  • combine the wards of Higher Kinnerton and Hope

21 current wards will see no change under these reforms
