Published: 21/09/2021

Flintshire County Council’s Domestic Energy Efficiency team performed well at the recent Energy Efficiency Regional Awards, scooping four excellent results.

The team was awarded first place for Regional Vulnerable Customer Support Campaigner of the Year for their project ‘Crisis Fund’.  This project supported vulnerable households who would otherwise struggle to heat their homes.  The team will continue to work with registered social landlords and community energy groups to encourage others to replicate the fund in their respective local areas.

The team also achieved the following accolades:

• 2020 Regional Small Scale Project of the Year Award (Projects below 250K) “ Warm Homes Assistance Contract” – Highly Commended.

• 2020 Regional Large Scale Project of the Year Award (Projects above 250K) “Fit for Flintshire” – Highly Commended

• 2020 Regional or Local Authority Body of the Year Award  - Commended

The ‘Warm Homes Assistance Contract’ is the first commercial contract with Wales and West Utilities and has the potential to support 7800 fuel poor homes.

The “Fit for Flintshire” project was funded by the Warm Homes Fund and involved the insulation of Air Source Heat Pumps, resulting in cost savings and a reduction in carbon dioxide.

For the 2020 Regional or Local Authority Body of the Year Award, Flintshire was commended for overall efforts in delivering energy efficient projects.

Flintshire’s Leader, Councillor Ian Roberts, said:

“I am delighted to hear Flintshire has, once again, been recognised at these awards.  These are fantastic projects making grass root changes to residents in Flintshire, saving money and providing warmer more environmentally sustainable homes.

“It is increasingly important that Flintshire homes are efficiently heated.  Making the best use of our renewable energy is not only cost saving for Flintshire residents but is also facilitating the significant reduction of C02 when making the switch from Oil to Air Source heating.”

The team nominated Clwyd Alyn for the 2020/21 Regional Housing Association or Landlord of the Year Award and they achieved highly commended.
