Bagillt road improvements

Following an invitation from Welsh Government to submit applications through the Road Safety Grant Fund, Flintshire County Council has been successful in obtaining funding to deliver Road Safety and Active Travel infrastructure improvements on the A548 dual carriageway near Bagillt which are to be implemented within the 2020/21 financial year. 

Proposals include: reduced 40mph speed limit on the A548 dual carriageway on approaches to the Blossoms junction; signalisation of the Blossoms junction incorporating a proposed toucan crossing and the implementation of a proposed 3m shared use footway cycleway on the eastbound carriageway, thus providing sustainable access to the All Wales and Dee Coastal paths. 

Councillor Carolyn Thomas, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Countryside and Deputy Leader of Flintshire County Council, said:

‘’We are very pleased to have received Welsh Government funding to deliver these much needed Active Travel and Road Safety improvements. This scheme will not only improve the safety of road users at this location, but it will also provide residents with an essential means of access from the High Street in Bagillt, across the A548 dual carriageway and on to the All Wales Coastal Path. 

“I know that these improvements will be highly valued by the local community and they will go a long way in encouraging the uptake of walking and cycling as well as improving the health and wellbeing of our local communities.’’
