crowd.jpgSt. David's Day celebrations took place early in Flint this year with a celebration of Welsh culture, youth and identity.

The event was held in the centre of Flint in front of St Mary’s Church on Church Street, on Friday, 22 February 2019.

Crowds enjoyed Welsh themed performances from local schools and local musicians. This annual event is organised in partnership with Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, Flintshire County Council and Flint Town Council. The Mayor of Flint announced the winners of the St. David’s window decorating competition who were Nightingale House Hospice.

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Management and Assets, Councillor Billy Mullin, said

“This was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to celebrate our proud Welsh culture and heritage. This annual event brings together everyone in the local community. I’m glad so many people came to celebrate and support local schools and musicians.”

The Mayor of Flint, Councillor David Cox, said: “Flint Town Council is delighted to support this event celebrating youth and culture in Wales.”

Gill Stephen, Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam said:

“It’s great every year to see so many local people coming out to watch the performances and join in the fun. The Saint David’s Day Celebrations are now established as a popular event in the town calendar. We look forward to seeing them continue to grow and continue to bring the community together in the future.  I would like to thank Flintshire County Council and Flint Town Council for their support which made the celebrations possible.  We are also grateful yet again to St Mary’s and St David’s Church for the warm welcome and practical help! It was also nice to have the company of the Mayor of Flint who announced the winners of the Window Dressing Competition and awarded the prizes.”
