Published: 12/11/2014
A playground in Mold has been given a prestigious status to protect the use of
the land for future generations.
St Mary’s play area has been awarded Queen Elizabeth II Field status by the
charity Fields in Trust, formerly known as the National Playing Fields
Association, it means that the parks will be protected as public open space.
A deed agreed between the landowners, Flintshire County Council, and Fields in
Trust restricts use of the land for outdoor play, sport and recreation.
Councillor Kevin Jones, Cabinet Member for Waste Strategy, Public Protection
and Leisure said: “The charity has protected a number of playing fields and
outdoor spaces across Flintshire with the help of the Council and partner
agencies.
“It means that the land has to be used by the local community for leisure and
it is really important for everyone to have this space to be able walk, run,
play and enjoy the outdoors.”
