Hundreds of people attended a jobs, skills and training event to support employment in Flintshire at Connah’s Quay Civic Hall. Aimed at adults and young people seeking work, the interactive event gave them the opportunity to meet with employers, education establishments and support agencies. There were over 700 job vacancies available, in a variety of sectors with applicants taking advantage of the ‘on the day’ support to fill in application forms. Employers included; ASDA Queensferry, Westbridge Furniture and Ralawise with a number of interviews arranged on the day. For those needing help with employability or entrepreneurship skills, workshops were also available giving practical advice. The event was organised by Communities First Flintshire, Jobcentre Plus and Careers Wales. Communities First Flintshire also showcased their work including the new LIFT programme, developed to support the long term unemployed back into work. Along with applying for vacancies, jobseekers were able to meet with and put questions to employers, learning providers and many other support organisations. Councillor Derek Butler, Cabinet Member for Economic Development said: “The event was a great success with over 500 people through the doors. It gave a different take on the world of work and what jobs and skills are needed especially in related areas.” Local councillor Paul Shotton added: “The venue was full to capacity and it was a very successful day. I spoke to a many visitors who were thrilled with the advice available and really pleased with the event.”
