Flintshire school praised by Estyn inspectors

A Flintshire primary school is celebrating after Estyn praised the school’s strong ethos, high expectations and nurturing learning environment.

Inspectors who visited Ysgol y Llan, Whitford, found that pupils feel safe, valued and ready to learn, and consistently demonstrate excellent behaviour, positive attitudes and enthusiasm for learning.

Teaching was praised for being engaging and appropriately challenging, with effective questioning and feedback supporting pupils’ progress. The school’s learning environments, including its outdoor areas, were also recognised for promoting independence and curiosity.

Estyn commended the school’s strong focus on wellbeing and inclusion, alongside its positive partnerships with parents, the local church and the wider community.

Headteacher Mr Tomos Williams said: “I am incredibly proud of the recent Estyn inspection outcome for Ysgol y Llan. The report truly reflects the warm, caring and ambitious school community that we work so hard to nurture every day.

“What stood out most during the inspection was our pupils. Their behaviour, manners and positive attitudes to learning were exceptional, and they represented our school with confidence and pride.

“The inspectors recognised the high expectations we have for all learners, alongside our strong focus on wellbeing, inclusion and meaningful learning experiences.

“This inspection was a real team effort. I would like to thank our dedicated staff for their commitment and professionalism, our governors for their continued support and challenge, and our parents, carers and wider community for working so positively with the school. It really is a special family and I love the work we are doing here.

“We are proud of this report, but we remain committed to building on these strengths as we continue to provide the very best education for our children.”
