Change to the electoral registration system

Published: 07/08/2014

During August, all Flintshire residents should receive a letter through the post concerning the biggest change to the electoral registration system in nearly 100 years. Over 118,000 people in Flintshire will receive a letter from Electoral Registration Officer Colin Everett explaining a new, more secure system where each individual will now be responsible for registering themselves. The Individual Electoral Registration is being introduced to replace the old system where one person registered everyone living in a property. Many Flintshire residents will automatically move onto the new electoral register. However, some will need to take action to join or remain on it, which they will now also be able to do for the first time by registering quickly and easily online. Colin Everett, Flintshire’s Electoral Registration Officer, said: “Residents should receive a letter between 8 - 15 August explaining the changes to the electoral registration system. The letter will tell you if you have been automatically transferred to the new register. If you have not been transferred, you will need to provide some additional information and the letter will tell you exactly what you need to do. “It’s really important that everyone makes sure they are registered to enable them to take part in future elections and I want to thank residents in advance for their co-operation.” For more information visit or .
