20230109_131405156_iOS.jpgStudents from Ysgol Derwenfa joined forces last week with the ‘MPCT Young Leaders’ and absolutely loved it!

‘MPCT Young Leaders’ is a unique character education programme, aimed at equipping learners with the values and virtues in which to develop resilience, empathy and employability skills all through a soft military ethos.

The students spent time completing a range of activities with Staff to develop key skills, especially self-discipline.  They were also showed how to march and stand to attention following different commands and staying focused.

Laura Cartwright and John Jones, class teachers said:

"Both classes really enjoyed the activities and gained a lot from it.  We would like to thank MPCT for their time, they have really inspired the children to work towards their goals and achieve their full potential.

At Ysgol Derwenfa we have been working hard to provide enrichment opportunities which contribute to their overall character development and prepare the children for the future world of work, by gaining transferable life skills."

Comments from some of the students:

"I really liked the shelter! And the discipline was amazing but tricky!"

"I liked it when we built the den in the forest, it was fun."

"I really liked it. It taught me how to respect others and myself. It was also really fun and the discipline was really fun. I loved everything about it".

Mike Dodd (MPCT Tutor) said:

“What a pleasure this class was to teach. The engagement throughout the session was second to none, and after an introduction on character, we followed it up with a few activities including health and nutrition, teamwork and self-discipline.  Overall, the learners were brilliant, I thoroughly enjoyed teaching them and I look forward to supporting them and the school further in the New Year.”
