Published: 08/07/2014

Flintshire Connects Connah’s Quay will be officially opened at 11.30am on Monday 14 July by Councillor Aaron Shotton, Leader of Flintshire County Council. A formal ceremony involving local community leaders will be followed by an open afternoon of activities from 1.30pm to 7pm for the public. During the open afternoon there will be a chance for the under 5s to enjoy Rhymetime, while older children will be given the chance to be entered into a free prize draw if they call in and sign up for the national Summer Reading Challenge. The Heritage Display is keen to capture local memories and individuals and community groups are encouraged to call in with their old photographs, documents and memorabilia where they can be scanned for possible future display. While they are there visitors can also get ‘hands on’ in the museum handling some of the Heritage Display exhibits. The Credit Union will be on hand to talk about affordable loans and savings, North Wales Police will be sealing fingerprints in key rings and the Greenfield Valley Museum staff will be offering free badge making. In addition to the special activities on offer during the afternoon visitors can make use of the usual facilities delivered in the centre such as paying council bills, enquiring about council services, joining the library, using the computers free of charge and taking advantage of free WiFi. Located on Wepre Drive the new Flintshire Connects centre provides local access to Council Services, Connah’s Quay Library and Learning Centre and a new Heritage Display. In addition to the Library and Learning Centre trained advisors will be on hand to help customers access information and key County Council services such as housing, Streetscene, welfare benefits and advice, Blue Badges, Concessionary Travel and Council Tax. The centre will also enable Partner agencies to hold community surgeries.
