Pensioners council tax grant continues
Published: 07/07/2014
Flintshire County Council has agreed the continuation of a council tax grant in
2014-15 for the over 60s in the County who are already in receipt of partial
Council Tax Support and is aimed at providing financial assistance to those
pensioners in need of most help.
The grant scheme was a specific Welsh Government funded initiative which has
been running for four years, but this year payment of the grant is at the
discretion of the Council.
The continuation of the grant was widely supported at a recent meeting of the
Flintshire cabinet and work is now underway to pay the grants automatically to
all qualifying households in early July 2014.
Over 2,200 pensioner households are set to qualify for grants up to a maximum
level of £95 without the need for pensioners to complete application forms
Commenting on the implementation of the grant scheme, Councillor Aaron Shotton
said “At a time when local government is facing major challenges on funding
public services, I am proud to announce the continuation of this scheme during
2014-15”.
