Starting your own Business

Thinking of starting your own business?

If you have an idea and the determination to make it happen, our Business Development Team works in partnership with Business Wales to offer valuable and confidential support and advice.

For more information please visit: https://businesswales.gov.wales/ or contact Business Wales 03000 60 3000.

Starting a business is a big step and one that many people could not even consider, however it is also very exciting and if you have the right idea you should go for it!

There will be many questions going round your head. How will I find customers? What should I charge?   Will I be able to manage without a steady wage? Is there anyone who can help me with a business plan?

The Welsh Assembly Government operates a free programme to help people to become self employed. The programme is a mixture of workshops and one to one business support. The one to one sessions allow you to speak exclusively about your idea to a Business Adviser who will listen to you and guide you through the steps you need to take when deciding if self employment is right for you, and if your business idea is viable.

The workshops are informal and provide a good opportunity to meet other people considering starting a business and they cover all the aspects of a business plan.

There are workshops covering: Awareness of Starting in Business (Is it right for me?): Market Research: Marketing: Costing and Pricing: Financial Management and Financial Administration, each module lasts half a day and should be pre-booked.
