Casual Vacancies and by-elections

If a councillor leaves their seat during the course of their term, a casual vacancy occurs.

A seat can become vacant in different ways. It can be due to the resignation of a councillor, the passing away of a councillor, the disqualification (or ceasing to be qualified) of a councillor, or a failure to take up office after being elected.

Voter ID

From 4 May 2023, voters in Wales will need to show photo ID to vote at polling stations in some elections.

How do I vote?

Voting gives you a chance to voice your opinion on important issues that affect you, your local area and your country.

Voting by post

Instead of going to your polling station you can apply to vote by post.

Voting by proxy

If you are unable to go to the polling station on polling day you can ask someone you trust to cast your vote on your behalf.

What support will I get as a County Councillor?

When Councillors are elected for the first time, it takes a while to understand what the Council does and their role within it.

Have you ever thought of getting involved at election time by either working at a polling station or at the count?

Accessibility at the Polling Station

Everyone should be able to register and cast their vote without facing barriers. We attempt to make all our polling stations wheelchair accessible and can provide ramps where necessary.

Electoral Arrangements for Flintshire

The County Council is split into a number of electoral wards that Councillors represent. For the 2022 elections there will be new wards.

Fair Campaign Pledge

All candidates standing in local government elections in May will be asked to make a Fair Campaign Pledge if proposals at the full Council meeting on 24 February, 2022 are approved.
