Let's Talk: Living in Flintshire

National Residents Survey 

During the period September to November 2025 the Council participated in the National Residents Survey.    

Developed and coordinated by Welsh Local Government Association (formerly Data Cymru), this biennial (every two years) online survey is offered free of charge to any Welsh council wishing to take part.  It is intended to provide a high-level overview of people’s overall satisfaction with their local area (‘what’ people think).  It does not collect granular data that helps understand ‘why’ people think the way they do. 

Despite the Council’s best efforts in promoting the survey through a range of available channels:

• website
• social media
• local media
• professional networks (i.e. older people, younger people, etc)
• county councillors
• town and community councils
• providing non digital support through Flintshire Connect Centres and Gwella Mobile Library Service

the response rate was disappointingly poor with less than 1% of Flintshire’s population taking part, which unfortunately cannot be considered representative of the views and opinions of the wider Flintshire population.  

Without access to more detailed information explaining the ‘why’, it is not possible to develop a comprehensive action plan of improvements with any degree of confidence or certainty and given the poor response rate, coupled with these limitations, it is not considered proportionate to allocate further resources to analysing the information recently collected. 

Whilst, on this occasion, this is a disappointing outcome for the Council, residents should be reassured that it:

• does have access to more granular resident feedback/data, relating to topics included in the NRS, which is used for comprehensive improvement planning.   
• will look at what steps are needed to secure a greater level of engagement with its residents on these important matters in the future.
