Welsh Education Strategic Plan

In January 2013, the National Assembly passed the School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act, which includes a statutory requirement for all local authorities to prepare a Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP) detailing how it will contribute to achieving the outcomes and targets set out in the Welsh Government’s Welsh-medium Education Strategy.

The authority’s previous WESP for 2014-17 is now coming to an end, therefore the authority is required to prepare a new WESP for the period 2017-20.

We are required to carry out consultation on the content of the WESP for 2017-20. Consultation will start on the 19th December 2016, and will end on the 12th February 2017.

At the end of the consultation, the WESP will be updated to reflect comments received during the consultation period. The final WESP will then be submitted to the Welsh Government, who can either: -

  • Approve the Plan as submitted
  • Approve the Plan with modifications, or
  • Reject the Plan and prepare another one

The Welsh Education Strategic Plan 2017 - 2020 document is currently being amended and will be available again soon.
