The Society was founded in 1911 for the collection and publication of archaeological, historical information and materials relating to the then County of Flint. A programme of lectures is organised during the winter months, and over the summer there are a series of excursions to sites of historic and archaeological interest. All meetings are held on Saturday afternoons. There is also an annual residential summer school, which gives members the opportunity to explore the history of others regions of Britain. The Flintshire Historical Society Journal is published annually. Its contents include a mix of lengthy scholarly articles, shorter articles and book reviews.
