Housing associations and trusts

These are independent 'registered social landlords' not private landlords. They provide housing in a very similar way to the council and are non-profit making. They are run by committees, who are unpaid, and managed by paid professional housing officers.

All housing associations and trusts are registered with the housing corporation, an agency set up by the government to oversee the funding and management of registered social landlords.

We work closely with several housing associations to develop affordable housing for rent. Some people on our waiting and transfer lists are offered a housing association property instead of a council home.

Housing associations provide housing in a very similar way to the council and are non-profit making. Here you can find out more about housing associations and how to apply to become a tenant.

To get on to the council register, you need to fill in a housing application form
