An active member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is someone who is already paying pension contributions from their pay.  If you are paying contributions, your employer also contributes generously to your pension. 

As a member of the pension scheme, you will have access to a pension at retirement which will be paid to you for life and which will increase in value in line with the Consumer Price Index.

The pension scheme also offers life cover so if you die whilst still in employment a death grant will be paid to your Estate/Beneficiaries.  Your dependants may receive survivor benefits too.
