Eligibility
You will automatically be entered into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) if:
- you are under the age of 75, and
- have a continuous contract of employment of 3 months or more, and
- are employed by Local Government or an employer that uses the LGPS as their occupational pension scheme
If you are a casual employee / relief worker, you will also automatically be entered into the LGPS so long as you have a continuous employment contract of 3 months or more. You are not eligible for membership without a continuous employment contract.
If you have automatically been entered into the LGPS and do not wish to be a member, you must complete an Option not to pay form (136KB opening in a new window) and return it to your Payroll Department. Before opting out you should read about the benefits that the LGPS offers so that you are aware of the benefits you will be giving up.
If you have previously opted out of the LGPS and now wish to join, please complete an Opt-in form (188KB opening in a new window) and submit it to your Payroll Department.
