Value of Dependants Benefits
There are two types of Dependants Pensions:
- Surviving Partner’s Pensions
- Children’s Pensions
Surviving Partners’ Pensions
The actual value of your Surviving Partner’s pension will depend on several factors. The main factor to consider is when the Deceased left the pension scheme. Was it:
- on or before 31st March 2008, or
- on or after 1st April 2008
On or before 31st March 2008
If the Deceased left the LGPS on or before 31st March 2008, Surviving Partner pensions can be paid to Widows, Widowers, or surviving Civil Partners.
The pension is based on the following formula:
1/160 x final pensionable pay x relevant amount of LGPS membership
Please see below to ascertain the relevant amount of LGPS membership to be used for a Surviving Partner’s pension.

Children’s Pensions
The value of a child’s pension depends on whether there is a Surviving Partner’s pension to pay and how many children are eligible to receive a child’s pension.
Figures for Surviving Partner and Children’s pensions will be confirmed to you in writing once the pensions have been calculated.
