Rural Walks in Flintshire

Rural Flintshire is a landscape of incredible variety. The publication as shown below recommends 25 of the best walks in the county, and is illustrated with clear mapping, route directions and colour photographs, as well as an insight into our local stories.

Walk the magnificent open moorland of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) for its strenuous ascents to wild upland heaths with stunning views. Explore the quiet riversides, wooded valleys and rolling farmland of Llanasa, Ysceifiog, Whitford and Caergwrle. Discover the wildlife rich coasts that fringe our county at Talacre and along the Dee Estuary. Or for an alternative stroll, why not discover the rich stories of industrial heritage of Halkyn, Greenfield and Buckley?

View or download any of these 25 Rural Walks in Flintshire by selecting the walk you’re interested in.

Booklets are available free to callers at all local Tourist Information Centres and Flintshire Libraries, plus Wepre, Loggerheads and Greenfield. Alternatively please send a cheque or postal order for £1 (made payable to 'Flintshire County Council') to Flintshire Countryside Service, Wepre Park, Wepre Drive, Connahs Quay, Flintshire, CH5 4HL, along with your name and address.

Remember these simple tips to help you enjoy your walk to the fullest:-
  • Take an Ordnance Survey map of the area - 'Landranger', 'Pathfinder' or 'Explorer' are the most useful.
  • Wear clothing that is appropriate to the weather, and stout but comfortable walking footwear
  • Allow enough time for your walk, and calculate to finish before dark, unless you are prepared for this, and take a torch
  • Make sure you know how far you will be walking, and that the distance is well within your comfort limit
  • Take food and drink with you if you think you may need it
  • Remind yourself of the Countryside Code before you go

Enjoy your walk!
