06/03/2008 - Regional Technical Statement - Have your say on new quarries report.
Aggregates are vital for the construction of roads, railways, schools, homes and all types of buildings. They are used in large volumes and include sand, gravel, crushed rock and recycled materials. The varied geology of North Wales means that there are large resources of aggregate materials which have been quarried for centuries; sand is also dredged off shore. Aggregates can also be produced from waste such as that arising from roofing slate production and from the demolition of buildings. North Wales is self-sufficient in aggregates and also exports considerable amounts to those parts of England where there are few other local sources.
But the hardness of rocks which makes them reliable aggregates, also produces rugged landscapes and headlands. Slate waste requires long journeys to reach big markets. There are no simple solutions.
The purpose of the Regional Technical Statement is to set out a strategy for the fair provision of aggregates in the North Wales region until 2021. It has been coordinated by consultants in liaison with Mineral Planning Authorities, Government agencies and industry.
It builds upon national policies for Wales as a whole and when confirmed, will provide the technical framework for the preparation of detailed policies presented in Local Development Plans.
The statement contains a detailed analysis of recycled materials, marine and quarried aggregates, demand, transport, environmental issues and resources. It also includes targets to increase the use of waste.
You are invited to study the report which is available on line at www.nwrawp-wales.org.uk or www.grhgca-cymru.org.uk or copies can be inspected at the main planning offices for Anglesey, Gwynedd, Snowdonia National Park, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. Please submit your comments by 4th April 2008 to: ian@nationalstonecentre.org.uk or Ian Thomas, Secretary to North Wales Regional Aggregates Working Party c/o National Stone Centre, Porter Lane, Wirksworth, Derbyshire DE4 4LS Tel: 01629 824833

24/10/2007 - Regional Waste Plan 1st Review - Public Consultation Oct-Dec 2007
In 2004 the North Wales Regional Waste Plan was adopted. This non-statutory plan provides a land use planning framework for the North Region and is a material consideration in the planning process. Waste is not a static industry and the Plan needs to be reviewed to reflect the changing needs of the region.
The 1st Review of the North Wales Regional Waste Plan is currently underway and is due to be published by the 31st March 2008. Once published the Review will replace the North Wales Regional Waste Plan and will become a material consideration in planning terms.
A full public consultation is currently underway which closes 29/02/2008. You can make a difference, whether you are a resident, a business, a member of the waste industry, a member of an environmental group or indeed anyone with an interest in waste matters. It is your comments and opinions which help shape the regional waste planning process.
The people of Wales are invited to access further information about the options and complete the consultation survey. Detailed information and the survey form can be found by:

21/08/2007 - Welsh Assembly calls in application for apartments at Bromfield Industrial Estate, Mold
The Welsh Assembly Government has given formal notice to Flintshire County Council of its decision to “call in” an application for the erection of 157 apartments on the site of the former Bromfield Timber Works on the Bromfield Industrial Estate in Mold. The Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing has decided that the proposed development raises issues of more than local importance in respect of housing policies. Earlier this year Flintshire’s Planning Committee had resolved to grant planning permission but the Council is now directed that it may not issue the consent. Instead the matter will be determined by the Minister. If it is decided to hold a public local inquiry then the Council and interested parties will be notified in due course.

06/07/2007 - Price Waterhouse Coopers Report
The report of the Council’s external auditors, Price Waterhouse Coopers, commissioned to look at current processes with the planning function, was considered by the Environment and Regeneration Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 18th and 19th June 2007. The full report is open for public viewing and can be viewed by clicking on this link. The PWC report and the recommendations of the Scrutiny Committee will be considered by the Council’s Executive in due course.

11/05/2007 - Emerging Flintshire Unitary Development Plan: Responses to Proposed Changes Representations and Further Proposed Changes.
Report to Executive 15th May 2007
A report will be considered by the Council’s Executive at its meeting on 15th May 2007, which refers to representations received to the consultation on Pre-Inquiry Proposed Changes carried out at the end of 2006. The report recommends responses to each representation made and once considered by the Executive, each interested party will be contacted by letter with a copy of the Council’s response to their representation(s).
The report also deals with recommended responses to representations received on the Strategic Environmental Assessment/Sustainability Appraisal, as well as identifying further Proposed Changes resulting from the consideration of all representations received. These are few in number and whilst they will be publicly available following the above Executive meeting, will not be the subject of further consultation as they will be fed into the Public Inquiry process for consideration by the UDP Inspectors.
