Equality and Diversity

Equality

Flintshire County Council is an equal opportunities employer and provider of services and welcomes applications from all members of the community. Our aim is to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of Age, Disability, Gender Reassignment, Marriage and Civil partnership, Pregnancy and maternity, Race, Religion and belief, Sex and Sexual orientation.

Flintshire County Council operates, and will continue to operate fair and equitable methods and procedures to ensure that all its employees and prospective employees are treated fairly and are not subjected to unfair discrimination.

Equality Monitoring

The information gathered on our Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form is used to monitor the effectiveness of our equal opportunities policy in recruitment and selection and help us to develop and improve. When we receive your application, the Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form will be processed separately. This information will not be available to the panel members and will not be used to make any decisions about your application or suitability for employment.

Please state if you would like any support or adjustments to be made in the selection process for reasons such as religion, disability, medical or maternity.

Equal Pay

The Council supports the principle of equal pay for equal work of equal value and recognises that there should be a pay and grading structure which is free from bias and based on objective criteria.

Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS)

The Guaranteed Interview scheme (GIS) is one of the five commitments of the Jobcentre Plus Disability Symbol which is sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions. Under this scheme, Flintshire County Council agrees to offer a guaranteed interview to all disabled job applicants who meet the minimum essential criteria for the role. This applies to both externally and internally advertised posts.

The aim of this commitment is to concentrate on the abilities of applicants for employment and not their disabilities, as we recognise that to categorise or stereotype disabled people does them a disservice personally and denies the organisation the potential to recruit the best person for the job.

What does GIS involve?

Under the scheme, if you have a disability and you apply for a job with the County Council, you will be guaranteed an interview as long as you meet the minimum essential requirements or standards for the job. All applicants are asked to indicate if they would like to apply through this scheme.  Please complete section 14 of the application form.

Flintshire County Council is a member of Stonewall Diversity Champions Programme and is a Disability Confident Employer.
