UK Parliamentary Elections (General Elections) 12 December 2019

The next Parliamentary Elections will be held on 12 December 2019

MPs divide their time between work at the Houses of Parliament in London and local work in the area they represent. In Parliamentary Elections (also called General Elections) you can vote for your local Member of Parliament (MP). Within Flintshire, there are two MPs, one for each of the parliamentary constituencies of Alyn and Deeside and Delyn.

Important Dates

  • The deadline to register to vote: Tuesday 26 November 2019
  • Deadline to apply for a postal vote: 5pm Tuesday 26 November 2019
  • Postal votes will be dispatched on Tuesday 26 November 2019
  • Deadline to apply for a proxy vote: 5pm Wednesday 4 December 2019

Voting

To vote in a general election you must be registered to vote, 18 years or over on polling day and also be one of the following:

The following cannot vote in a general election:

  • members of the House of Lords (although they can vote at elections to local authorities, devolved legislatures and the European Parliament)
  • EU citizens resident in the UK (although they can vote at elections to local authorities, devolved legislatures and the European Parliament)
  • anyone other than British, Irish and qualifying Commonwealth citizens
  • convicted persons detained in pursuance of their sentences, excluding contempt of court (though remand prisoners, un-convicted prisoners and civil prisoners can vote if they are on the electoral register)
  • anyone found guilty within the previous five years of corrupt or illegal practices in connection with an election
