More NEW Homes in Saltney

Published: 22/02/2017

Flintshire County Council’s property management company, North East Wales (NEW) Homes, recently took possession of a further four brand new homes to help boost the number of affordable houses for rent in the County. The four homes are on the new Edwards Homes Garden Village development in Saltney. Designed to respond to the challenges experienced by residents in accessing affordable housing, NEW Homes (North East Wales Homes) was set up by the Council to increase the housing options available to local residents. It offers tailored housing management services which are designed to increase the quantity and quality of affordable housing across the county. These properties have been transferred to NEW Homes as part of the developers’ affordable housing obligations on private developments. This ensures that new developments meet the affordable housing need for local people in the local community. New tenants were delighted to be able to move in on the same day that the homes were handed over to NEW Homes. Flintshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Chairman of the NEW Homes Board, Councillor Bernie Attridge, who has visited many of the new tenants to welcome them to their new homes, said: “NEW Homes has been set up specifically to meet the affordable housing need within local communities and gifting of these properties as part of the developer’s planning permission helps to achieve this. I’m proud to welcome new tenants into their new homes and it is rewarding to see families making a new start in their lives.” Neil Edwards, Managing Director of Edwards Homes, said: “Edwards Homes was delighted to work together with Flintshire County Council to provide four new build properties. These properties are a quick and easy way of being able to deliver much needed affordable housing to the local community.” The local Councillor Richard Lloyd said: “I am very pleased that the Edwards Homes development in Saltney was able to provide four new homes to Flintshire County Council which housed four families in time for Christmas. “The idea of developers supplying gifted houses to the council instead of affordable homes is a great idea to help towards replacing the councils housing stock and I hope it continues.” Neil Edwards (left) with Councillor Attridge handing over keys to delighted tenants, along with Cllr Richard Lloyd (right)
