CSSIW report update

The outcome of a review of adult social care in Flintshire will be considered at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (17 June) along with the development of an action plan to further strengthen the service. The review from the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) highlighted the positive services in place for people living with dementia in Flintshire. Praise went to the emphasis the Council places on quality and responsive services, highlighting the Council’s policy not to condense visits to support people at home into 15 minutes. The report also commended the ‘Living Well’ domiciliary care team who support people living with dementia using in-house care staff and the North East Wales Carers Information Service (NEWCIS) as a model of best practice in supporting carers and families. Targets within the report that will make up the action plan include further development of the partnership arrangements with Betsi Cadwalader University Health Board (BCUHB) and details to build on initiatives already in place. Councillor Christine Jones, Cabinet Member for Social Services said: “The report recognises that Flintshire is leading the way on dementia care and I am proud of our services such as dementia cafes, specialist extra care housing and quality home care support. Highly trained staff take time with people and give our residents the care they deserve.” “Building on our partnerships with local agencies through the new action plan will mean joined up working and more enhanced services for all residents.” Mark Jenkinson, Programme Manager Older People Mental Health at BCUHB said: “We continue to welcome the strengthening of partnership work and joint planning of Flintshire County Council and BCUHB services for older people.
