Business rate relief for retailers

Published: 16/06/2014

A new business rate relief scheme for Flintshire retailers is expected to be approved at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (17 June). An estimated 725 businesses will benefit from grants of up to £1,000 which will be offered to businesses in occupied retail properties with a rateable value of £50,000 or less. The Welsh Government has now confirmed that over £580,000 of funding is available to Flintshire County Council to meet the needs of local shops, restaurants, cafes and licensed premises. Grants will be applied to the net bill after all other relief, including the small business rate relief, has been awarded. Business rates are collected by the Council on behalf of the Welsh Government. Councillor Billy Mullin, Cabinet Member for Corporate Management said: “Flintshire County Council works in partnership with Welsh Government to offer these savings to local businesses. I hope businesses and services will take the opportunity to apply for the reductions in rate relief and it should be a boost to the local economy.” If you own a local business contact the Council for more information on www.flintshire.gov.uk
