Revised Blue Badge scheme
Published: 11/12/2014
Changes to the Blue Badge scheme are to be discussed at Flintshire County
Councils Cabinet on Tuesday 16 December.
The process for issuing and enforcing the use of Blue Badges in the county is
changing.
All new applicants who do not meet the automatic qualification criteria will
receive face to face assessments at one of the county’s Flintshire Connects
centres. The Council no longer needs to contact GPs for supporting medical
evidence; instead, the customer will be able to use their own evidence in
support of their application, for example, prescriptions, occupational
therapist assessments and adaptations to their home.
Applicants who automatically qualify for a blue badge will not be required to
attend an assessment appointment, but will still need to complete an
application form.
It is also proposed that the Council introduces a fee of £10 for a replacement
blue badge.
Cabinet members will also be asked to adopt enforcement of Blue Badge parking
through the Civil Parking Enforcement service.
The county’s Civil Parking Enforcement officers regularly witness the misuse of
blue badges. If enforcement is approved by Cabinet, they will then have, where
necessary, the powers to retain the badge, if they have reasonable grounds to
believe that the badge is fake or being misused in any way.
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment,
said:
“The revised blue badge scheme will ensure a much better and more efficient
service for our customers. The misuse of badges is a problem and I welcome the
enforcement of blue badge use alongside Civil Parking Enforcement.”
