Commemorative Benches

Flintshire County Council is donating a commemorative bench to each of the five principal town councils in honour of the anniversary of the Great War. The benches are to be placed at the Cenotaph, Connah’s Quay, the Cenotaph in Flint, the Hawkesbury Memorial Gardens in Buckley, the Memorial Gardens at Panton Place in Holywell and Bailey Hill in Mold. A commemorative plaque mounted on a Tommy helmet will appear at the side of the benches and the company who make them will give a donation to the Royal British Legion for each bench. Leader of Flintshire County Council and Armed Forces Champion for Flintshire Councillor Aaron Shotton said: “The donation is to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War and the benches have been installed in time for Remembrance Day. “It is a fitting tribute for our towns to have a place where people can sit and reflect as well as providing an opportunity to contribute towards the work of the Royal British Legion during this period of Remembrance.” Councillor Shotton ( left) is pictured with Councillor Peter Tinman, Chairman of Connahs Quay Town Council at the commemorative bench in Connahs Quay.
