Foster carers celebrate Halloween

Flintshire foster carers enjoyed a hair-raising day out to celebrate the Fostering Network’s Sons and Daughters month. The trip was organised for the children of local foster carers who visited AppleJacks Farm ‘Spooky World’ on Tuesday 28 October as a thank you for the important role they play in helping children in care. The Stepping Stones group, organised by Flintshire Fostering Service, arrange a trip for the children during each school holiday. Becky, one Flintshire foster carer said: “These days out are great, a lot of the day-to-day attention goes on the foster child, so it’s nice to give the other children some time. They give up a lot and they do a lot of the work.” Flintshire County Council’s fostering service now has 111 foster carers, a new record for the local council, but they still need more. Councillor Christine Jones, Cabinet Member for Social Services said: “We know the important role that foster carers’ own children play to make the children feel happy and safe, especially when they first arrive and feel scared. They share their mum, dad, toys and home and sometimes have to miss out on things that they want to do so the trips are one way to say thank you to them.” The Fostering Service is currently looking for more people possibly who have raised their own children or have a lot of time and energy to give to children who have missed out on things that most take for granted, you don’t have to have children to become a foster carer.
