Flintshire Business Awards – Sponsors

While the judges are making the final decisions on the winners for the seventh annual Flintshire Business Awards on 17 October, in association with AGS Security Systems Ltd - the companies who sponsor the 10 award categories have been announced. This year’s Start-Up award is backed by leading regional independent chartered accountants DGS. The company have recently joined forces with Wrexham based accountancy firm John Davies & Co as part of a new working partnership offering an enhanced range of specialist services to its client base from across North Wales. With manufacturing facilities in Flintshire, the international company Knauf Insulation is sponsoring the Exporter of the Year award. Knauf Insulation recently provided materials for Heathrow’s new Terminal 2, contributing to making it 40 per cent more carbon efficient thanks to Knauf Insulation’s Earthwool Building Slab RS45 insulation products. As Coleg Cambria recently welcomed over 50 apprentices from Flintshire County Council to a spectacular teambuilding workshop it seemed appropriate that they sponsor the Apprenticeship award. The ‘Stock Market Challenge’ at the college’s Northop site brought new trainees together before embarking on their apprenticeships at the Council. As well as being the headline sponsors, AGS Security is backing the Business Person of the Year award. Founded in 1987 the company is a leading accredited installer of intruder and fire alarms, CCTV, automated gates and barriers, access control and emergency lighting and now provides a key holder service and static guards as well as world class monitoring and system maintenance. This is their fourth year of award sponsorship. The Business of the Year Award for businesses under 50 employees is being sponsored by the Federation of Small Business, the UKs largest campaigning pressure group promoting and protecting the interests of the self-employed and owners of small firms by putting the issues affecting FSB members over to governments and the media. Edge Transport Ltd is sponsoring the manufacturing award and managing director Jonathan Edge said: “Manufacturing is vital to the UK economy so Edge Transport is delighted to be sponsoring the Flintshire Business Award for manufacturing this year. The Awards are a great way to recognise manufacturing excellence and innovation, and will allow those that win with Flintshire to showcase their businesses both locally and nationally.” Pochin Construction Ltd has won a £3million contract to design and build the new long term operations and maintenance facilities for RWE Innogy UK’s flagship Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm. The multi-million pound complex at the Port of Mostyn, North Wales, will house more than 100 long term staff providing engineering, technician, management and administrative services throughout the operational lifetime of the wind farm. These two companies are both involved in the Awards with Pochin’s sponsoring Business of the Year over 50 employees and The Port of Mostyn sponsoring the Environment/Green award. The Innovation/Creativity award is being sponsored by Wrexham-based Glyndwr University, a pioneering institution committed to business across the region. Glyndwr Innovations, the commercial arm of the University, was named fastest growing company in Wales in 2012 and fourth-fastest last year, as well as topping the Creative and Knowledge Industries category for the second time in a row. Key partnerships with industry heavyweights including Carillion, UPM Shotton and Toyota reinforce a new operational and academic structure aimed at strengthening the student experience and commercial ties across north east Wales and beyond. Finally the Social and Community Award is sponsored by the North Wales Economic Ambition Board (EAB), an organisation comprising of partners from across the region who are working together to support the business sector to create sustainable jobs, whilst allowing individuals and businesses to further develop identified skills needs. Councillor Derek Butler, Cabinet Member for Economic Development said: “The awards are made even better with the support of these companies and a huge thank you goes to everyone involved. We are looking forward to meeting the winners of each category at the ceremony on Friday.” Ten judges will now evaluate each category from the submitted entries. The 2014 entrants will all attend the Gala Dinner Awards ceremony at the Soughton Hall, Northop on Friday 17 October where the overall winners will be announced.
