Council workers fundraise in memory of a dear colleague
Flintshire County Council has teamed up with North West Cancer Research (NWCR) to fundraise in memory of a former colleague.
Helen Stappleton, who was Chief Officer for People and Resources, sadly passed away in September last year. They held an event at County Hall in Mold on what would have been Helen's birthday, 18 July.
Peter, Helen's husband, and her son, James, were also there, helping to raise money and awareness. The group sold charity badges, air fresheners, pens and other items as well as providing information booklets about the charity.
Sharon Knott, Chair of the Mold Committee of NWCR and organiser of the event, said:
"The Mold Committee is a group of very hard working volunteers who organise a variety of events throughout the year such as race nights, a summer ball, sponsored walks and runs, coffee mornings and lunches. We are also very lucky to have a number of people who support us during the year with their own fundraising events in aid of NWCR by hosting barbecues or afternoon teas or giving donations instead of birthday presents. With their support, last year we raised over £32,000 to help the vital research into the causes and treatments of cancer in the North West and North Wales. If anyone would like to get involved or needs support with their own fundraising event please ask them to get in touch with me on firstname.lastname@example.org."
In June this year, some of Helen's friends and colleagues took part in the midnight walk in Wrexham, raising £2,200 for Nightingale House who provided such fantastic care to Helen and her family.
The group gave this heartfelt tribute to Helen: "We all worked for and alongside Helen for many years. We chose the name Hel's Belles for our team as Helen was beautiful inside and out. She has left a lasting memory on so many of us and we will never forget her. She remains with us every day not only in our work life, but also in our personal life, as we were, and are, a team made up of great friendships."
